Site closing! This site is no longer being updated and will likely be deleted mid-2014 to prevent it from becoming a source of outdated information. If you live in Gabalfa and are interested in taking over the running of the site, please contact me.

The name Gabalfa is derived from the Welsh ‘ceubalfa’ (place of the boat) as it was once the site of a River Taff ferry crossing. Today the district is characterised by the enormous Gabalfa Interchange where the mighty A48 meets the city-centre-bound A470 and the outward-bound A469.

Where is Gabalfa? If you live in Maindy (or Maendy), ‘Lower Heath’ or the western edge of Cathays, then there’s a good chance you are in the ward Cardiff Council calls Gabalfa. However you write your address, you’re welcome here.

This site is an effort to bring together information that Gabalfa locals will find useful and to offer a platform for residents to talk about local issues. Read more about this site

Shutting up shop

This month I moved away from Cardiff (and Gabalfa). Therefore, I’m sad to report that this local blog will be going away.

Not immediately however. It was always my intention that this site would serve as a useful static resource for residents, and I only recently gave it a bit of an update. For the immediate future it will remain useful, so I shall leave it up and running. Perhaps in six months or a year I will come back here and close it permanently.

In the meantime, if anyone wants to contact me about taking over the running of the site, I may be amenable.
