The name Gabalfa is derived from the Welsh ‘ceubalfa’ (place of the boat) as it was once the site of a River Taff ferry crossing. Today the district is characterised by the enormous Gabalfa Interchange where the mighty A48 meets the city-centre-bound A470 and the outward-bound A469.
Where is Gabalfa? If you live in Maindy (or Maendy), ‘Lower Heath’ or the western edge of Cathays, then there’s a good chance you are in the ward Cardiff Council calls Gabalfa. However you write your address, you’re welcome here.
This site is an effort to bring together information that Gabalfa locals will find useful and to offer a platform for residents to talk about local issues. Read more about this site →Follow @gabalfablog
